Another Forced Posting 10/20/2010
I wish I could get into blogging.... Today is my "day off". My mother-in-law keeps Rock on Wednesday mornings - which is totally wonderful - but I decided to volunteer from 9:30 to 11:30 at my school district's art center so that I can stay in touch with future job possibilities. Oh, AND so I can do something good for the people in my community. Unfortunately this takes quite a chunk out of my morning off. I am complaining, but I don't really mean it. I actually like my volunteer time. There are many benefits to being a volunteer - such as: 1 - you can be a few minutes late and not have to feel guilty (I'm still trying to work on punctuality), 2 - you can choose where you want to volunteer (I am volunteering at the District's Art Center - not in a roadside clean-up crew), 3 - volunteers are usually seen a kind-hearted do-gooders and therefore get lots of hugs and smiles and credit for the small (2 hrs/week) amount of time they work. Anyway, I like talking with Leslie so it is totally worth it. Add Comment Must Post a Blog Entry 10/17/2010
I decided that no matter what I would definitely post something to my blog tonight.... I am totally slacking. We had an awesome day today. Adam, Rock, Coco, and I went to the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch. it was so cool to see Rock sitting on mounds of pumpkins and hay. Maybe next year he will actually care about choosing a pumpkin to take home with us. I do think he had a great time. We got to see animals in a VERY small petting zoo - one donkey and three sheep, but I think he was impressed anyway. Rock is too small this year for the pony rides or the other small rides (like the mini ferris wheel), but maybe next year or the year after that.... I love this time of year. Autumn - the best season ever! I love how the excitement keeps building and building until Christmas and then New Year's. I can tell that Rock is enjoying the fun activities too. Having him around makes everything new and exciting again... Post Title. 09/28/2010
Alright... I have switched my domain name back to Quesofiesta.... I think.... I always liked that name. Anyway, I am so sad that I lost all of my past Quesofiesta posts. It was a really cool cooking/other blog/website... Maybe I will do a tribute to quesofiesta next post.... This new change will hopefully get me to post more often. I plan on doing lots of posts on Rock but also posts on recipes... I love cooking - I am going to get back into it... I just hope my domain change worked. Rock Eating Rice Cereal 08/08/2010
I have decided to try to start feeding Rock "real" food at least once a day. The nurse practitioner suggested I try to feed him more often so that his tongue gets some practice moving food around in his mouth. Adam took a video of him eating rice cereal today - it is too cute. 6 Month Pediatrician Visit II 08/07/2010
By the way Rock's 6 month "vitals" are: Weight: 17 lbs. 13.5 oz - 55% Height: 27 -1/4 in - 80% Head circumference: 46 cm - 95% Our son has a big head! He is soooo smart! 6 Month Pediatrician Visit 08/07/2010
We went to Rock's 6 month pediatrician visit yesterday. He is so healthy - what a wonderful thing to be able to say. The one area of concern is his sleeping habits. I was somewhat scolded by the nurse practitioner for not being more insistant on regular naps and uninterupted nights of sleep. I don't know what to do. I loathe the idea of letting him "cry it out", but everything that she said made sense - about how important sleep is for his growth and development and how he needs to be taught to have healthy sleep habits. Argh! I am sure I will figure out something :) He is soooo cute. We are so lucky! Rock Sleeps Through the Night! 07/28/2010
OMG, I can't believe it! Rock slept through the night for the first time ever on the night of July 24th. This was our first night back after our vacation to The Wilderness in Sevierville, TN. We both slept terribly the whole vacation, but I guess that helped us both to appreciate our home and beds in Texas. We had a great time in Sevierville - check out my Flickr Pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/49005092@N06/sets/72157624477529787/show/ This month it seems Rock has grown so much mentally, physically, and emotionally. I can't believe how big he is and how independent (sort of) he is getting. It is incredible! Portabella Pizzas 06/30/2010
Tonight I had an incurable craving for pizza. I am, unfortunately, totally carbohydrate intolerant so pizza is an absolute no-no. In an effort to meet my pizza and weight control desires I created the following recipe solution. Portabella Pizza You will need: Portabella mushroom caps Pizza sauce Other various pizza toppings (I used roasted chicken, feta, mozzarella, spinach, and onion) First make sure to scrape the gills off the portabella mushroom caps – otherwise you will have a nasty black inky sludge under your pizza toppings. Then put on the sauce and pizza toppings and cheese. Place on middle rack and broil on low for about 10 – 12 minutes (watch the tops to make sure the cheese doesn’t burn). Remove from oven and enjoy your delicious low-carb treat. This is just too easy, and although it is definitely not the real thing, it sure beats scraping the toppings off of a perfectly good pizza. Double Baby Bed Battles 06/24/2010
My husband and my son are both currently sleeping so I have a moment to write. My son is in my bed. Apparently I lost our 5 AM crib battle. It was close - 20 minutes of nursing, then he babbled and soothed himself happily in his crib for about 25 minutes before growing frustrated and demanding that I take him to bed with me. Not to worry, I am sure I will get another opportunity to help him sleep through the night in his crib EARLY tomorrow morning. My husband is in the guest bedroom (snicker) – it looks like he lost too (double snicker), but actually, no, he is sick today. There are a thousand jokes (or more) about the differences in how men and women deal with illness so I won’t even go there. My husband does like to be babied when he is sick, but who doesn’t? I do think it was sweet that he went to the guest bedroom all by himself last night without even waking me when he realized that he might be getting really sick and contagious. I say that with absolute sincerity considering that we have a window unit air conditioner in our bedroom (tacky - yes - I know) that is used during the summer months to supplement our central air conditioner (indulgent - yes - I know) when it gets particularly hot outside (like every night in June - late September). So while the rest of Texas boils our bedroom stays icebox cold. For this, I don’t mind being either tacky or indulgent. Anyway, I think today will be interesting. I have never cared for two babies at once before…. At least one of them is potty trained. Scratch everything I said yesterday.... Well - I am still proud of my son, but I am not sure we have accomplished much in the area of sleeping through the night... He woke several times last night and then woke up at 5 AM without any desire to go back to sleep. I guess this is going to be a slow push and pull process. I am too tired to write more. |
